Living in a collection

Perched on the hills of Oletta, in the heart of Upper Corsica, NOAE occupies a 17th century residence surrounded by olive trees, cypresses and Mediterranean gardens. Long known as U Palazzu Serenu, then as Aethos Corsica, it now opens a new chapter as part of the Emerald Stay collection, taking on a new identity without giving up the character that made it one of the most refined addresses on the island.

Time here seems to follow a different rhythm, set by the commanding position over the Gulf of Saint-Florent, by the silence of the Corsican countryside and by the small scale of the house, which together turn a stay into a slow experience, where the landscape keeps entering the rooms and accompanies every moment of the day.

The architecture keeps the soul of the original residence, reinterpreted through essential, light filled interiors where local stone, wood, lime and natural fabrics create a discreet presence. What truly sets NOAE apart, though, is its collection of contemporary art.

The works speak with the spaces without ever becoming mere decoration, and follow the guest through bedrooms, lounges and terraces as sculptures, photographs, paintings and installations, striking a rare balance between domestic architecture and artistic research. The result is a house that reveals itself slowly, room after room, where every piece seems to belong naturally to the light and colours of Corsica.

NOAE is one of the rare hotels where art is not a simple complement to the project, but its main language.

The collection includes works by international artists such as Daniel Arsham, Anish Kapoor, Kim Tschang-Yeul, Wendy Wischer, Yvan Rebyj and Paul de Pignol, who also made the bronze reception desk that welcomes guests at the entrance. The works sit within the architecture naturally, with no museum route and no labels, letting the stay itself become a journey of discovery. Every room tells a different dialogue between art, light and landscape, with windows framing the mountains and the Gulf of Saint-Florent while the interiors build a story made of material, colour and silence: more than a collection to look at, it is a collection to live with.

The location

NOAE lies in Oletta, one of the historic villages of the Nebbiu, a still little known region that holds some of the most authentic landscapes in Corsica. Among vineyards, olive groves and small stone villages, the area offers a rare balance between sea and mountains. Within a few minutes you reach Saint-Florent and its harbour, the beaches of the Désert des Agriates and the wineries of Patrimonio, while back at the hotel you find again the quiet of the Corsican countryside and a view that carries the eye all the way to the Mediterranean.
